You said ‘yes to the dress’ and it’s a pretty big deal. The gown you will wear for one of the most important moments of your life. The dress that makes you feel like a Goddess. The investment that cost some serious coin. This dress holds so much within its fabric. You will pledge your love to your life partner in this dress. It’s a big deal.
Yet, traveling with your dream dress can cause some anxious moments. Here are a few tips to ensure your gown arrives at your destination safe and sound.
The airline you are flying on may or may not charge for carry on luggage, so you will want to check in with them to see if your dress will incur carry on fees. Never pack your dress in your checked luggage! We can’t stress this one enough! Bags get lost every day in the world of aviation, and it could be devastating to arrive at your resort without your dress.
Every aircraft is unique in it’s design. Some aircraft have long hanging wardrobe closets in the front of the cabin, some do not. And…there is no way to know this ahead of time for certain, as airlines can change equipment/aircraft up until the very last moment. If you land one with the closet, it’s like winning the lottery! Just check in with a Flight Attendant to see if they will allow you to hang the dress in the closet. If they do not allow it, or your aircraft simply does not have that forward closet, you will need to put the dress in the overhead bin.
After any roller bags have been placed in the bin, lay the dress flat across the top, and fold up with the bottom portion to fit.
Once you arrive at your resort, unpack the dress from the garment bag and hang it in the closet. Your wedding package may come with complimentary steaming of the dress should any wrinkles have set in. If the package does not include this, you may be able to purchase this service for a nominal fee. Check with your wedding coordinator on this prior to your arrival.
If you opt for the steaming, we like to suggest arranging that service the day before the actual ceremony. We had a bride who had her veil steamed the day of the wedding, and the veil was nowhere to be found as she made her way to the spa to get ready with her squad. Luckily, she had opted for our Concierge Service and when we arrived at the resort, about 2 hours before the ceremony, she was a bit more than nervous that the veil she entrusted to the housekeeping team for steaming had miraculously now gone MIA. We went into detective mode and scoured the various places the veil could be. We tracked down the housekeeping manager, the wedding coordinator, the General Manager. No one had a clue. We asked the bride for a key to get into her room to search for it. She assured us it wasn’t there, as her mom had looked. Yet, she gave us the key, ran up to her room and as we opened the closet, there it hung. Neatly tucked in the clear plastic from the recent steam job. Needless to say, there was some serious celebrating among those ladies when we showed up with the missing veil.
We just love happy endings as much as we love happily-ever-afters…
